To follow up on my previous post about why I think it’s a GREAT idea to save some bride & groom portraits for a time after the ceremony…. All of the events of the day leading up the ceremony can be full of anxious anticipation and it’s often harder to get that little sigh of relief until they are over with. So even if you don’t want to take time away from enjoying your own cocktail hour, work sunset photos into your timeline! If the sun is setting at a time where you have intros or something else important that you can’t step away for, you can most likely make it work during dinner service. It could be the last 15 minutes of dinner, or the first 15 minutes when salads are being served, that you may have time to run outside quickly when your guests are a little busy eating. By that time too you’re really feeling a little more relaxed, and you can have a more informal and candid vibe with your photos. Plus, if you end up having a sunset like this one? How can you even pass that up?!

Wedding photo tip for today: go for some Bride & Groom portraits after the ceremony! I would say about half of my couples decide to have a first look with the intention of getting all of the photos over and done with before the ceremony. I understand that many who choose to have a first look don’t want to take time away from their guests on their wedding day, but I also think having photos after your ceremony - whether that’s at cocktail hour or sunset - is a great idea for those more relaxed and go with the flow vibes you may be hoping for in some of your couples portraits. I’ll elaborate more on this in my next post so keep an eye out!
